Productive Ways to Waste Time Online

Let’s be honest, working on the computer all day can be distracting – Facebook and other distrations are just lurking in another tab, waiting to distract you from productive work. But did you know that letting your mind wander can actually increase your productivity? That’s right, surfing the web can actually make you MORE productive. The key is looking at something that gives your brain a rest from the task at hand, but is still productive. Confused? Well, let us give you a few examples.

While Facebook may not be able to offer much educational purpose, there are other ways to waste time on social media and other sites that do offer something in return.

Here at Pomerantz, we use pinboards to brainstorm for our clients. We basically use our Pin-boards as visual bookmarks, enabling us to better track the images and sites that we reference for inspiration. After hours, instead of just pinning recipes, hairstyles, crafts, etc. for your own usage, why not create a pinboard for a friend? Give them inspiration for their home remodel or upcoming baby shower. Share a board with fashion and decorating that remind you of a friend. What a fun way to show someone you’re thinking of them!

It all depends on whom you follow. If you’re only following your friends that don’t tweet anything besides status updates and cute pictures of their dog, than its time for you to be more intentional about who you’re following. Twitter can be an excellent way to keep up on current events and learn about what’s happening in your area. Create a list of inspirational or informative people and companies to follow. Use your time to stay informed and share what you’ve learned by retweeting.

If you’re not a big social media fan but are still looking for something to keep your brain busy, try
